Should you insure a pet guinea pig?
Last modified:Whilst there is no legal requirement to insure a guinea pig in the UK, with a lifespan of between 4 and 8 years, your pet is going to need medical care at some point.
The cost of treating an unwell or injured guinea pig can be expensive, but with the reassurance of an insurance policy in place, you can give all your attention to your recovering guinea pig instead of worrying about the cost of treatment.

Their scientific name is Cavia porcellus, which is why they are sometimes referred to as cavies. The word porcellus is latin for ‘little pig’ - a name which may have come about because of the pig-like squeaking noises they make.
